Asteroid Alert: Two Giant Space Rocks to Pass Earth

Asteroid 2024 MK to Fly By in 2024

A massive asteroid, designated 2024 MK, will make a close approach to Earth on August 10, 2024. The asteroid is estimated to be approximately 0.3 miles (0.5 kilometers) in diameter, roughly the size of a small mountain.

Asteroid 1997 BH9 to Pass in 2029

Another asteroid, 1997 BH9, will pass significantly closer to Earth on October 11, 2029. This asteroid is much larger than 2024 MK, measuring approximately 2.2 miles (3.5 kilometers) in diameter. According to NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office, 1997 BH9 has a 72% chance of colliding with Earth in the distant future.

No Immediate Threat

Despite the close approach of these asteroids, neither is considered an immediate threat to Earth. However, these events highlight the importance of ongoing efforts by NASA and other organizations to monitor and track near-Earth objects for potential impact hazards.
